EMBA Team Selection
The Virginia Tech EMBA program relies on the combination of a lecture/learning environment and the dynamics within and among six teams. Each team member's scope of expertise and experience supplements the in-depth examination of case studies, lecture discussion and group projects. By design, the cohort is limited to 25 executives, and team selection begins at the initial recruitment stage. After a series of personality assessments, the EMBA staff forms the final teams.
The teams are self-managed. With each project, a team is expected to take ownership of the overall process and internally negotiate tasks for successful completion. Overcoming such intra-team challenges as time management, particular skill sets, corporate cultures and interpersonal styles are considered an integral part of leadership development and mimics real-world situations where collaboration is often the norm.
